This year a 27 year old man disclosed to a prominent Dallas Lasik Eye Surgeon that he had relations with an HIV positive person. The Lasik Doctor immediately refused to perform Lasik on this candidate even though he was tested and was deemed HIV negative. After the Lasik Doctor was contacted by a local newspaper he back stepped and offered the man a discount on his Lasik Eye Procedure and blamed his medical staff for being homophobes. The 27 year old man declined Lasik with the refusing Doctor and had Lasik elswhere.
The FDA recommends that if someone is HIV positive or has AIDS that they be extremely cautious about making a final decision to have Lasik due to the fact that the healing process is extremely impaired when someones immune system is not at normal strength. This would leave the eye open to infections and severe complications.
These are just some thoughts to dwell on if you are in this situation.
